What is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae Kwon Do is the new name given to the ancient Korean art of self defense, which has been practiced in Korea for 2000 years, emphasizing foot and leg techniques as well as hand skills. “Tae” means kicking, jumping or flying with the feet. “Kwon” means to strike or block with hand. “Do” means the way or the art. Because of the powerful use of the legs and hands, Tae Kwon Do is one of the most effective martial arts, and should only be used in life threatening situations. Master Lee’s Tae Kwon Do School, as part of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, is recognized by the Olympic Committee.
